Art print from the Rome Series. Trevi Fountain

The Roman custom of building a beautiful fountain at the end of the aqueducts that brought water to the city was revived in the 15th century with the Renaissance. In 1629, Pope Urban VIII commissioned Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sketch possible renovations, but the project was abandoned upon his death. The fountain is a sculpture that is both freestanding and in relief. It features two seahorses, representing the two aspects of the sea: the turbulent and the peaceful.
The central niche or exedra framing Neptune has freestanding columns to enhance the interplay of light and shadow. In the niches flanking Neptune, Abundance pours water from her urn, and Salubrity holds a cup from which a serpent drinks.

Printed sheet on 320 gsm paper. High-quality embossing. Measures 23 x 23 cm.
