San Pau Hospital Sheet, BARCELONA
Art print from the Barcelona Series. Hospital de Sant Pau
It is located within a complex of buildings designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, one of the leading figures of Catalan Modernism. Construction took place between 1902 and 1930 in two phases. The complex comprises six other buildings in a more moderate Modernist style, as well as several later additions. With its main building and numerous pavilions, the Hospital de Sant Pau, along with the Pere Mata Institute in Reus (also by the same architect), is one of the most significant examples of Catalan Modernist architecture. Although the original project was not fully realized, its significance has been recognized with numerous awards and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
