Assumption of Our Lady Parish Print, POZUELO DE ALARCÓN
Art print from the Spain Series. Parish of the Assumption in Pozuelo
At the end of the war, the old church had withstood the flames, although with significant damage, most notably two enormous holes in the apse and nave, caused by artillery shells. The new church was designed to resemble the old one but was shorter and narrower. In 1941, the tower was rebuilt, and a year later, the nave. A side chapel was also constructed, where the image of Our Lady of Consolation is kept today. The project also included two additional chapels, intended as a sacristy and for the administration of the sacrament of confession, which were later combined. Currently, only two attached granite pilasters, supported by two bases, remain of the old building. These pilasters hold up the first arch of the nave's barrel vault.
