The Alcántara Bridge rises over the Tagus River. Located at the foot of the San Servando castle and next to the Puerta de Alcántara, there is evidence of its construction in Roman times, at the founding of Toletum. It was one of the bridges that gave entrance to the city and in the Middle Ages it was an obligatory entrance for all pilgrims.
It is strongly protected with two fortified gates at its ends, one of them in the baroque style and the other built in medieval times. This bridge has been the object of constant attacks during the Reconquista period, and was rebuilt again.
It was declared a national monument in 1921.
