Art print from the Spain Series. Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial

The Monastery is a complex that includes a royal palace, a basilica, a pantheon, a library and a monastery. It was built between 1563 and 1584.
It is one of the most unique Renaissance architectures in Spain and Europe. It was designed in the second half of the 16th century by King Philip II and its architects were Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera, among others.
Since the end of the 16th century, it was considered the Eighth Wonder of the World, both for its size and functional complexity as well as for its enormous symbolic value. Its architecture marked the transition from the Plateresque Renaissance style to unadorned classicism.
