La Pedrera Chimneys Sheet, BARCELONA
Art print from the Barcelona Series. Chimneys of La Pedrera
They are one of the most famous and unique features of the rooftop, and have generated countless hypotheses about their origin and symbolism. There are a total of 30 chimneys, arranged in groups or individually, scattered across the terrace. Constructed of brick plastered with ochre-colored mortar, they have a body that spirals around itself and is topped with a small dome that, in most cases, resembles a warrior's helmet. Furthermore, on one of the chimneys, Gaudí placed a heart pointing towards Reus, his birthplace, while on the other, a heart and a teardrop point towards the Sagrada Familia, a detail that some experts interpret as a sign of sadness at not being able to see it completed.
