Primate Cathedral Print, TOLEDO
Art print from the Spain Series. Toledo Cathedral
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo, also known as the Primate Cathedral of Spain, is a Gothic building, considered by some to be the masterpiece of Gothic architecture in Spain. Its construction began in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III, the Saint, and the final Gothic additions were made in the 15th century when, in 1493, the vaults at the foot of the nave were completed. The main façade has three portals: the Gate of Forgiveness in the center, the Gate of the Last Judgment to the right, and the Gate of Hell to the left. It is Gothic in style, with some Mudéjar influence. The total height reaches 92 meters. The octagonal structure is adorned with pinnacles and flying buttresses and is crowned by a spire supporting three crowns, resembling a tiara.
