Art print from the Spain Series. Santiago de Compostela Cathedral
It houses what, according to tradition, is the tomb of the Apostle James, which made the temple one of the main pilgrimage destinations in Europe during the Middle Ages through the so-called Way of St. James.
In the 18th century, the current Baroque façade was built to protect the Pórtico de la Gloria from the deterioration it was suffering due to inclement weather. It features large glazed windows that allow light to illuminate the original Romanesque façade.
