Its construction began with the Post Office House in the mid-18th century and a century later, between 1857 and 1862, it took its final form. Already in the 20th century, the gardens, the fountain were added and the pedestrian area was increased. It is one of the most famous squares in Madrid and there are some of the most significant points and buildings in the capital:
Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree. Symbol of Madrid, it was built in 1967.
The Post Office Clock. Place from where the New Year's chimes have been emitted since 1962. Thousands of people gather every year to eat the grapes and celebrate the new year.
Kilometer Zero. Point where the Spanish radial roads begin.
