Art print. Tower of Hercules in A Coruña

The origin of the tower is unknown, although it was rebuilt by the Romans in the 1st century. The Tower of Hercules was built as a navigational lighthouse. The inscription at the base of the tower and documentary references to the city of Brigantium reveal the existence of a lighthouse from the time of Trajan.
The earliest mention of the Tower is found in the Historiæ adversvm Paganos by Paulus Orosius, written around 415-417 AD, which says: At the second corner of the course, of circumnavigation of Hispania, where the city of Brigantia Gallæciæ is located, there stands a very tall lighthouse among a few works commemorating the route to Britannia.

Printed sheet on 320 gsm paper. High-quality embossing. Measures 23 x 23 cm.
