Santa María del Naranco is an old palace located on the southern slope of Monte Naranco. It was not originally designed as a church, but was the Aula Regia of the palace complex built by King Ramiro I. It was completed in the year 842. Its artistic style is the so-called Asturian or "ramirense" art, within the pre-Romanesque period.
