Brooklyn Bridge, NEW YORK Art Print

Art print from the New York Series. Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan

It is an emblem of 19th century engineering because of how innovative the use of steel as a large-scale construction material was at that time. It is so well built that it is still in use today.
In August 1876, the shores of Manhattan and Brooklyn were joined for the first time by a steel cable. To demonstrate its endurance, master mechanic E.F. Farrington crossed the East River by sliding down the cable while riding a chair. In February 1877, the construction of the anchor towers and the pillars would be completed, which would be provisionally linked through a pedestrian walkway. The two pillars, Gothic style with double arches and a height of 84 meters.
