In the mullion we must begin with the description of the seated figure of Saint James the Apostle, with the pilgrim's staff, as the patron saint of the basilica. Santiago appears carrying a parchment on which Misit me Dominus (The Lord sent me) is written. Above his head, the column ends with a capital in which the temptations of Christ are represented on three sides: the one looking towards the interior of the temple and the one where two kneeling angels pray. At the foot of the saint, another capital with the figures of the Holy Trinity.
