Paintings from Altamira, CANTABRIA
Art print. Altamira cave paintings in Cantabria
The cave paintings date from the Magdalenian and Solutrean periods. It can be confirmed that the cave was used during several periods, totaling 22,000 years of occupation, from approximately 35,600 to 13,000 years ago, when the main entrance was sealed by a collapse, all within the Upper Paleolithic. The style of much of the artwork belongs to the Franco-Cantabrian school, characterized by the realism of the figures depicted. The cave contains polychrome paintings, engravings, and black, red, and ochre paintings representing animals, anthropomorphic figures, and abstract and non-figurative drawings.
