Pantocrator and Tetramorphs Print, LION
Art print. Pantocrator and Tetramorphs in San Isidoro de León
The wall paintings that decorate the Pantheon must have been executed in the first half of the 12th century. The pictorial cycle begins with the scene of the Annunciation, and ends with the Crucifixion.
The scene of Christ in Majesty, surrounded by the Tetramorphs, is located in the vault of the central space. Christ appears framed by the mystical almond, blessing with his right hand, and with his left he holds a book, which reads EGO SUM LUX MUNDI. Christ appears seated, with his feet resting on the ground. On the bluish background with stars, the letters alpha and omega stand out on both sides of the head.
