New San Mamés Print, BILBAO
Art print from the Spain Series. New San Mamés Stadium
The architect César Azkarate explained the characteristics of the new stadium: the external skin of the stadium would be a cover of glass flakes, held by a metal structure like a network. This deck would be permanently illuminated, thanks to a complex lighting code that, in the style of the Allianz Arena in Munich, would vary in four different states. During the day it would be transparent, at night it would be illuminated like a lighthouse in the middle of the city, on match days the lighting would be red and white, and when there was a goal by Athletic, some spotlights located on the façade would turn on like a flashes creating a sizzle. In addition, the stadium would have a capacity for 56,000 spectators, divided into 3 rings and a smaller room, which would house more than 100 boxes.
