Monastery of Guadalupe Print, CÁCERES
Art print. Monastery of Guadalupe in Cáceres
It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. Its interior showcases Gothic, Mudéjar, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles. Before its monastic expansion, the sanctuary remained a secular priory for forty-eight years during the reigns of Alfonso XI of Castile and Henry II of Castile. In 1389, it became a monastery. Alfonso XIII issued a Royal Order for the transfer of the sanctuary to the Franciscan friars, thus beginning a new era. Pius XII, in 1955, elevated the sanctuary to the status of a basilica.
Inside, the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Patron Saint of Extremadura and Queen of Hispanidad, is kept.
