Mosque of Córdoba, CÓRDOBA
Art print from the Spain Series. Mosque of Cordoba
It is the most important monument in Córdoba, and also, along with the Alhambra, one of the most important examples of Andalusian architecture. At 23,400 square meters, it was the second largest mosque in the world by area, after the Great Mosque of Mecca. The Puerta de Las Palmas (Gate of the Palms) provides access to the mosque: a forest of 1,300 columns of marble, jasper, and granite supports 365 two-tone horseshoe arches. The mihrab is a jewel of marble, stucco, and brilliantly colored Byzantine mosaics on a background of gold and bronze, as well as copper and silver.
