Mosque of Córdoba, CÓRDOBA
Art print from the Spain Series. Mosque of Cordoba
It is the most important monument in Córdoba, and also in all of Andalusian architecture, along with the Alhambra. At 23,400 square meters, it was the second largest mosque in the world in area, behind the Mecca Mosque. The Las Palmas gate gives access to the mosque: there is a forest of 1,300 columns of marble, jasper and granite on which three hundred and sixty-five two-color horseshoe arches rest. The mihrab is a jewel of marble, stucco and brightly colored Byzantine mosaics on a background of gold and bronze, as well as copper and silver.
