Gran Vía is one of Madrid's main streets. It begins at Calle de Alcalá and ends at Plaza de España. Since its construction in the early 20th century, it has been a major landmark in the city, significant for commerce, tourism, and leisure. It represents one of the largest urban development projects in Madrid at the time. It provided direct access between the Argüelles and Salamanca districts and alleviated congestion at Puerta del Sol.
