Art Print The City and the Tagus, TOLEDO
Art print from the Spain Series. The City and the Tagus River in Toledo.
Toledo is known as "The Imperial City" for having been the main seat of the court of Charles I and also as "The City of Three Cultures," for having been inhabited for centuries by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. The old town lies on the right bank of the Tagus River, on a hill one hundred meters high above it, which the river encircles at its base, forming a pronounced meander known as the Tagus Bend. The historic city of Toledo was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1940, and later UNESCO granted it the title of World Heritage Site in 1986.
