Its origins lie in the desire to unite France and Spain by crossing the Pyrenees through Somport. After five years of construction, the new building was officially inaugurated on July 18, 1928, in the presence of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Gaston Doumergue, President of the French Republic. It is an elongated building with a symmetrical structure, divided into five sections, with the central and lateral sections projecting forward and being taller. It reaches 241 meters in length and has 75 doors in each of its sections.
