Notre Dame Cathedral Art Print, PARIS
Art print from the Paris Series. Eiffel Tower
Its construction began in the year 1163 and was completed in the year 1345. Dedicated to Mary, it is located on the small Ile de la Cité, surrounded by the waters of the Seine River.
There is still a duality of stylistic influences in this cathedral: on the one hand, reminiscent of the Norman Romanesque, with its strong and compact unity, on the other hand, the already innovative use of the architectural evolutions of the Gothic, which give the building a lightness and apparent ease in vertical construction and in supporting the weight of its structure. The floor plan is demarcated by the Latin cross formation facing West. The cross is "embedded" in the building, surrounded by a double ambulatory, which circulates through the choir at the head and extends parallel to the nave, thus giving rise to four side naves.
