After the Castilian conquest of the city, the site occupied by the old Andalusian fortress was distributed between King Ferdinand III, the bishop, some nobles and the Order of Calatrava. Its fortification was decided by the Castilian king, Alfonso XI, on previous constructions.
Accommodation of kings in their rooms in Córdoba, the Catholic Monarchs spent more than eight years in the fortress, directing the campaign against the Kingdom of Granada from there. In these same premises (Tower of Homage), Christopher Columbus requested funds for his maritime adventure in the year 1486, as well as the birth of one of his children, the Infanta Doña María, future queen of Portugal.
