In Alcaudete, history permeates every corner. Crossroads of roads, located in the Sierra Sur Region, in direct contact with the Grenadines and Cordoba lands. Its hamlet spills over the side of the hill, embracing its two most famous buildings: the medieval fortress (an example of a fortress on the last border with the Nasrid kingdom of Granada) and the church of Santa María la Mayor; expanding in the shape of a ring and from which its rich olive groves and orchards can be seen.
The fortress consisted of a cube, or keep, and five walls. The tower, made of ashlars, is square, about 40 m high. It has two floors that are large rooms, with a barrel-vaulted roof, and a window on each side.
