Art print. The Plaza Mayor of Salamanca
It was built between 1729 and 1756 in the Baroque style. The design is by the architect Alberto Churriguera and was later continued by others with few modifications to the initial project. At the beginning of the 19th century, it underwent several urban renovations, until, gradually, in the mid-20th century, it was stripped of its gardens, central bandstand, and public restrooms, leaving it open and unobstructed. Miguel de Unamuno described the square, which is considered a Site of Cultural Interest, as follows: "It is a quadrilateral. Irregular, but astonishingly harmonious."
