Louvre Museum Art Print, PARIS
Art print from the Paris Series. Louvre Museum
Its extensive collections are the result of a double historical effort. To the collecting developed by the French monarchy over several centuries, was added the efforts of the men of the Enlightenment, the disentailment work of the French Revolution, the military victories during the Napoleonic wars, and the archaeological campaigns and purchases promoted throughout XIX century. The opening of the Louvre in 1793 meant, within the history of museums, the transfer of the private collections of the ruling classes to publicly owned galleries for the enjoyment of society as a whole.
It underwent an ambitious modernization in the 1980s, the most visible element of which was the glass pyramid.
