Louvre Museum Art Print, PARIS
Art print from the Paris Series. Louvre Museum
Its extensive collections are the result of a twofold historical effort. The collecting developed by the French monarchy over several centuries was complemented by the efforts of Enlightenment thinkers, the confiscation of church property during the French Revolution, military victories during the Napoleonic Wars, and the archaeological campaigns and acquisitions undertaken throughout the 19th century. The opening of the Louvre in 1793 marked, within the history of museums, the transfer of the private collections of the ruling classes to publicly owned galleries for the enjoyment of society as a whole.
It underwent an ambitious modernization in the 1980s, the most visible element of which was the glass pyramid.
