The four caves, named Cueva Negra, Cueva Blanca, Cueva de Luis Salvador, and Cueva de los Franceses, are interconnected. The caves were formed by rainwater, and some scholars believe their formation dates back to the Miocene epoch.
They house a large underground lake, called Lake Martel, approximately 115 meters long and 30 meters wide. In this lake, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world, live classical music concerts are offered daily.
