Art print from the Spain Series. The Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid

The Puerta de Alcalá is one of the five ancient royal gates that provided access to the city of Madrid. It served as entry point for travelers arriving from France, Aragon, and Catalonia. It is located next to the Cibeles Fountain and the Retiro Park. It was built in 1778, commissioned by Charles III, replacing an earlier gate that had existed since the 16th century. The design and construction are attributed to the Italian architect Francesco Sabatini.
It is a neoclassical-style gate with a monumental appearance similar to Roman triumphal arches, erected with its significance. Its importance lies in being the first triumphal arch built in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, a precursor to others such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Printed sheet on 320 gsm paper. High-quality embossing. Measures 23 x 23 cm.
