It finds its origin in the desire to unite France and Spain by crossing the Pyrenees through Somport. After five years of work, on July 18, 1928, the new building was officially inaugurated in the presence of the King of Spain Alfonso XIII and the President of the French Republic Gaston Doumergue. It is a building with an elongated floor plan and symmetrical structure, articulated in five bodies, with the central one and the lateral ones advanced and higher. It reaches 241 meters in length and has 75 doors in each of its
sides giving rise to a building of considerable size. Externally it follows models of 19th century French palatial architecture.
