Art print. Roman city of Tarraco

Tarraco was one of the main cities of Hispania during the Roman Empire and the capital of the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis. In 2000, the archaeological site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many important Roman ruins remain. Part of the foundations of the great Cyclopean walls near Pilate's Barracks are believed to predate the Roman era. A building that served as a prison in the 19th century is said to have been the palace of Augustus.
The amphitheater was built at the end of the 2nd century AD, on a site that had previously been a burial ground. During the reign of Elagabalus, several renovations were carried out. In the 3rd century, during the persecutions of Christians, the city's bishop and his deacons were burned alive in the arena.

Printed sheet on 320 gsm paper. High-quality embossing. Measures 23 x 23 cm.
