Art Print The Colosseum, ROME

€19.00

Art print from the Roma Series. The Colisseum

Work on the Colosseum began between 70 and 72 AD. C. It hosted shows such as the venationes (animal fights) or the noxii (executions of prisoners by animals), as well as the munera: gladiator fights.
It is estimated that around 200,000 people died in these games. Likewise, naumachiae were held, spectacular naval battles that required flooding the arena with water. The Colosseum had an advanced water channeling system that allowed the lower floor to be quickly filled and emptied. In ancient times it had a capacity for about 50,000 spectators, with eighty rows of stands. Those closest to the arena were the Emperor and the senators, and as one ascended, the lower strata of society were placed.
