There is no agreement on its origin among the different authors, nor is there any documentation that clarifies it. For some, this bridge is Roman rebuilt by the Arabs. The majority, however, are inclined to consider him Arab.
The bridge has a single arch, 10 m in diameter and 31 m in elevation above the river level.
A few years ago it was restored, completely transformed. The parapets from the 17th century that prevented the view of the Tagus in the background due to their height and paving it again. Four balconies were also opened over the river to appreciate the natural beauties of the Tagus and the landscape in the background.
