Within the characteristic layout of the “Vila”, the cathedral (from the 14th century) and the Renaissance walls of the 16th century stand out, both included in the historical and artistic ensemble of “Dalt Vila” declared in 1999 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Also noteworthy are the Episcopal Palace, the town hall (former Dominican convent), the castle that dominates the city and the most important Punic necropolis in the Mediterranean and its port, active since Phoenician times.
The medieval area of ​​“Dalt Vila” was fortified by Philip II to protect the city from attacks by Ottomans and pirates, since the triple defensive enclosure, of Arab origin, was not sufficient.
